South Western Catchment Flood Risk Assessment and Management (CFRAM) Study

In November 2011 the Office of Public Works (OPW) appointed Mott MacDonald Ireland to carry out the South Western Catchment Flood Risk Assessment and Management (CFRAM) Study. The South Western CFRAM Study is part of the National CFRAM Programme. The CFRAM Programme is central to the Government’s medium to long term strategy for the mitigation and management of flood risk in Ireland. The aim of the study is to identify areas at significant risk of flooding and to propose measures that will manage the flood risk in those areas. Clonakilty was identified as one of the areas at significant risk from flooding. Ward and Burke contractors were awarded the contract to undertake this work and from there enlisted NVM Limited to provide a live web based portal to monitor vibration and noise levels during piling and excavation works through the project duration. Over 15 monitoring devices were installed to measure multiple locations simultaneously with on line access to the data and alert notifications should any exceedance of predetermined thresholds occur, both this  remote monitoring setup and with a hands approach to project assessments is making this a real challenging project for 2019…. https://www.opw.ie/en/flood-risk-management/operations/flooddefenceschemes/clonakiltyfloodreliefscheme/
